Will has been designing and developing for clients of varying industries and sizes since he graduated with Honours from University of Technology, Sydney in 2006. From 2009 to 2017 he lived and worked in the United Kingdom. In 2014 he founded Digital Design studio, Multiple States to feed his desire to develop an effcient and effective design process for regular clients. In 2017 he joined Pollen, a digital design agency in Surry Hills, Sydney at which he currently works. He lives on the Central Coast of NSW with his wife and two children.
He strives for good design generated from good design process. He works with the design philosophy of ‘less is more’. Simplicity within a design, in his view, leads to clarity. He is always attracted to the unusual. He believes in embracing the restrictions of a project and working with them rather than against them. He works within the agreed upon budget, be that money or hours. For digital design he follows Brad Frost’s Atomic Design methodology as he finds this the best way to balance speed and quality. He designs atoms first, then molecules, organisms, templates and pages. You can see his projects in the Case Studies section of this site.
He is a meticulous developer and favours the same simplicity and clarity within his code as he does within his design. Unnecessary complexity within code makes less scalable codebases with lengthy fixes, that increase cost to both the studio and the client. He is a believer in the power of automation and looks for any way to encourage this within his design and development practice. He has extensive knowledge of WordPress. He strives to find his own knowledge gaps and fill them through reading. He has experience leading a development team. He encourages peer assessment of his team’s and his own code and is at ease assessing, approving and merging code updates to projects. I enjoys working within a team and learning from those around him. He knows he can’t remember everything so he writes it down in detailed documentation.
He clings to fading hope that one day he will be a great artist. For this reason he regularly creates drawings and paintings. Sometimes he creates as many as one per day. He sees this as practice for the big day… But he doesn’t quite know when that day will be. He writes about his struggles on the battlefield of art in the Art Archive section of this site.
